First and foremost, it’s all about trust

At Milestone Wealth Management, we operate based on a strict fiduciary standard of care. What that means is that we are required by law to act in the best interest of our clients. This assurance gives our clients a little extra peace of mind, and the confidence that they are receiving the highest standard of care recognized in the financial industry.

Just for semantics sake, it’s important to understand the difference between a fiduciary and a broker: a fiduciary is an individual or firm that is legally bound to act in another individual’s best interest, providing up-front disclosures prior to entering into an agreement to provide financial advice. This disclosure includes covering our qualifications, what compensation will be expected, the fees, and any potential conflicts of interest.

A broker, on the other hand, is someone who oversees a financial transaction between two parties. A broker does not have a fiduciary duty to the client, they simply have to make suitable recommendations that are based on a client’s personal situation, but the recommendations don’t necessarily need to be in their best interest.

Okay, enough of the fine print … on to the good stuff!

Our Process

Step 1: Discovery Meeting – Getting To Know Each Other

During our initial meeting, we focus on you. We won’t discuss any financial advice, and no recommendations will be made. This is just about us getting to know each other. You need to feel comfortable with me and what I have to offer, and I need to understand what’s important to you as far as your money goes.

We will discuss all of your financial concerns. I will probably ask things like: what (if anything) keeps you awake at night? And how do you envision the end result?

There is never a charge for this initial meeting. It simply allows us to understand where you are now (your current financial outlook) and the lifestyle that you would like to be able to maintain throughout your retirement years.

At this meeting, you can ask as many questions as you want. I really want you to get a feel for what it would be like to be a client of our firm. If we identify any potential issues that could negatively impact your current financial plan, we will talk it through. If any of these issues concern you, and if you would like us to help you with them, we will move on to “Step 2” and schedule a follow-up meeting.

Step 2: Building Your Lifetime Income Plan

In this meeting, we will work on building your financial strategy. This will include:

  • Retirement Planning
  • Advance Tax Planning
  • Investment & Risk Management Strategies
  • Estate Planning

We’ll also cover any other aspects that might affect your lifetime income plan, including the sale of a business, social security benefits, Medicare, and any various retirement accounts you already have in place. We will also look at unexpected expenses and life events that you may have previously overlooked, such as long-term care, disability protection, and any life insurance needs that may need to be considered. I have a ton of experience with this, and can provide you with a lot of food for thought, that I promise!

Above all, it’s all about you: your plan. Your future. You tell me what you want to accomplish and I will tell you if I believe that it’s possible, followed by what it’s going to take to get there. Our goal is to devise a financial strategy for you that will exceed all expectations.

Step 3: Ongoing & Proactive Management

As we all know, the only constant in life is change. As your life changes, your plans need to change along with it. That’s why it’s important that we meet on a regular basis and make adjustments to your financial strategy (as necessary) along the way. Typically, I like to schedule reviews twice or three times per year, depending on the complexity and specifics of your overall financial plan. However, I also recommend and encourage scheduling a review whenever a major life event occurs.
